Concerning the design of villages and houses it is important to provide structures, in which communities, villages and houses can develop in their own way. These structures will define frameworks, within which interactions can take place.
Due to demographic developments in this region, a central aspect of the concept lies in the possibility of extension.
"A house has to be like a tree: it must be able to grow and spread out, must offer a place for children, storage, cattle and work." Fr. Windey
The basic concept in the living quarter consists of a module measuring 3,0 by 3,0 meters. The frame of the house is supported by steel pipes and has a total surface of 90m2, containing ample space for a (bigger) family. If necessary more units can be added, due to a (in relation to the building) spacious terrace. The concept allows its dwellers a high degree of flexible space regarding the dimensions of living space or the building itself: especially by a later extension of the living area but also in creating more space for domestic animals, if needed. The permanent feature of flexibility also deals with sustainable aspects, for instance concerning the choice of natural - and locally available - construction materials.
Consequently, an increased efficiency concerning costs and construction time can be achieved - thanks to a higher percentage of prefab parts with local material. Nevertheless, the core of the construction should be carried out by a professional company. A better quality of building and a greater cooperation with the dwellers at the construction site are also expected results.
The plan of the model-village in question includes 20 houses and a community house with baths and toilet.
