the extended (private) outdoor living space

Balkon, Loggia oder Terrasse – selbst eine kleine Geste bewirkt einen großen Mehrwert

In urban settings in particular, private outdoor spaces are key components of high-quality living, and their value has increased enormously, not least as a result of the experiences of the pandemic. Accordingly, exploring the multifunctionality and the social and ecological added value of such spaces plays an increasingly important role for us and is continually reimagined in our projects in a wide variety of forms – as a spacious terrace, a private front garden, or an outdoor space outside every window of a flat, etc.

The balcony and the loggia as additional living space: when outdoor areas are treated as ‘outdoor rooms’, living space can be easily extended outwards with minimal effort – for example, as an open yet sheltered retreat with a view, or as an ‘allotment’ complete with its own planter and ‘garden shed’.

The seamless integration of public, semi-private and private open spaces can also have a positive impact on the quality of these spaces. The flats gain additional, adaptable space, whilst fluid transitions from indoors to outdoors create a greater sense of openness – both in spatial and social terms.

A better microclimate, outdoor recreation, gardening right on your doorstep: green open spaces combine environmental benefits with health and social advantages. It takes just a single step to step out into the greenery: into the arbour, onto the ‘green’ bridge, or even into your own garden.
